Do you grind your teeth and wake up in pain? Do you suffer with headaches and migraines?
Here at KP we use Botox to help treat chronic migraines, tension and intense headaches by relaxing the muscles.
Typically, migraines can be caused by tension or grinding from your masseters muscle, this connects to the temporalis muscle and to the frontals muscle, this is usually what causes tension headaches and in most cases migraines; however, there could be other reasons. We would always suggest having a dental exam to assess your bite and causes of the grinding and possibly a mouth guard fitted first, this can help with grinding during sleep.
It is thought that botulinum toxin gets into the small nerves that carry pain from the head to the brain, known as C-fibres. This reduces the amount of chemicals released from the nerve ending and therefore interrupts the feedback pathway that perpetuates migraine and headache.
KP Skin Clinics is a multi-award-winning clinic that offers bespoke treatments. Being one of East Yorkshire’s medical aesthetic training providers we pride our self in training all aspects with the use of Botox.
As a registered dental clinic, we have advanced training in facial anatomy and can sometimes establish the cause of the migraines before treating with Botox. Use of labs allow us to make custom mouth guards to try first before going down the route of routine injections.
Checking the dental bite and how the teeth meet is absolute key in treating and diagnosing causes of grinding and headaches.
Unfortunately, not, like anti wrinkles injections this treatment lasts up to 12 weeks depending on muscle movement and nerve fibres. However, unlike the treatment of wrinkles with Botox, most clients find their pain is alleviated for up to 4-6 months.
With all injections, some discomfort is to be expected, the pain is very minimal, and the procedure takes less than 10 minutes.
Typically results can take up to 14 days to work, as the days go on the nerve ending slowly start to stop sending signals to the muscle which in turn slows down the muscle activation. Some clients report feeling their headaches ease within 5-7 days.
